R. (Reimer) Wolff

My interest in orthopedic surgery developed during my minor in Global Heath in Kenya, as part of my Bachelor in Medicine in 2019. Some time later, during my senior internship for my Master in Medicine in orthopedic surgery, I was offered the opportunity to conduct my master’s thesis in the Connective Tissue Repair lab, specializing in mechanobiology. I enjoy the challenge of broadening my clinical perspective with a more fundamental approach. My current PhD position as part of the LoaD consortium will focus on the effect of individual differences in genetics on cellular responses to mechanical loading and inflammation. I will contribute to a better understanding of what ‘optimal physical activity’ is for an individual patient with osteoarthritis of the knee – which is in line with the goal of the LoaD consortium.

Focus Area

Mechanobiology, inflammation, osteoarthritis.
