Imke Fase- Jansen, PhD

After completing my Masters in Biomedical Engineering, I started a PhD trajectory in the department of cardiology – biomedical engineering in 2021. Within this project, I developed tissue-engineered models to study the role of microcalcifications in atherosclerotic plaque rupture. From 2025 onwards I’ve started a new position as postdoctoral researcher on the Luminate project in the department of Orthopedics and Sport Medicine.  This project combines 3D bioprinting, the use of biomaterials and regenerative medicine to in situ regenerate cartilage and subchondral bone. My focus is on the development of the calcified cartilage layer by using tissue-engineering, as well as the validation of the components of the osteochondral unit in ex vivo and in vivo studies.
