B. (Brechtje) Hesseling

During my work as a physical therapist, I have always been interested in scientific and medical research. Eventually, I trained to be a clinical epidemiologist and currently I am working on my PhD as a part-time external researcher at the department of Orthopedics & Sports Medicine here at Erasmus MC.
For my daily work, I am a scientific researcher at Reinier Haga Orthopaedic Centre (RHOC) in Zoetermeer.

My research focuses on patients who receive a shoulder prosthesis. I study prognostic factors, how patients recover from their pain during the early recovery period and what patients expect of their surgery and if these expectations come true. Prof. dr. Denise Eygendaal is my supervisor/promotor at Erasmus MC, my co-supervisors are dr. Nina Mathijssen (RHOC) and dr. Barbara Snoeker (RIVM / University of Amsterdam / Lund University (Sweden)).
