C.J.A. (Christiaan) van Bergen MD PhD

Introduction

Christiaan van Bergen, MD PhD, is a fellowship-trained consultant pediatric orthopedic surgeon. He was trained in Amsterdam to become an orthopedic surgeon and scientist. He subsequently participated in different clinical and research fellowships and gained further experience in pediatric orthopedics (including upper extremity and trauma) in the Netherlands, South-Africa, Canada, United States, South-America, Austria, and England. He now works with great pleasure in the Sophia Children’s Hospital at Erasmus MC (pediatric upper extremity) as well as the Amphia Hospital in Breda (pediatric orthopedics and trauma), the Netherlands.

 

Christiaan has a genuine interest in clinical science. He has initiated research collaborations in the Netherlands (Rotterdam, Breda, Amsterdam, Nijmegen, Leiden, Utrecht, Eindhoven, Groningen) and abroad (Vancouver Canada and Cordoba Argentina). He has published numerous peer-reviewed publications, (co-)wrote various book chapters, presented his research at many (inter-)national congresses, and (co-)edited two books on pediatric orthopedics. He enjoys supervising (PhD) research students. His current research is aimed at improving diagnosis and treatment of pediatric orthopedic upper limb trauma and sports lesions (including deformities and osteochondritis dissecans), new techniques (including artificial intelligence, virtual reality and 3D printing), and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).
